I-STARS Project Advocates Sustainable Tourism as a Pathway to Resilience on World Tourism Day 202427/9/2024 In celebration of World Tourism Day 2024 on 27th September, the I-STARS project underscores the pivotal role of tourism in promoting peace, sustainability, and building a more resilient and innovative sustainable tourism ecosystem across Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, Italy and Spain. Under the theme of "Tourism and Peace," this year's commemoration aligns closely with the I-STARS project's mission to empower tourism MSMEs in transforming into sustainable businesses.
Tourism stands as a powerful tool for fostering understanding and reconciliation among nations and cultures, supporting social justice, human rights, and sustainable development. As highlighted by the I-STARS project, tourism businesses in Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, Italy and Spain had the opportunity to receive funding of up to €5,600 to implement sustainability initiatives and work towards recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Through initiatives like the I-STARS project, we aim to harness the potential of tourism to not only spur resilience and innovation but also to foster sustainable practices that promote peace and harmony. The I-STARS e-Learning courses include stakeholder engagement, reinforcing the project’s commitment to peace-sensitive tourism. By empowering businesses to engage with their communities, employees, and consumers, I-STARS ensures that sustainable practices are not only adopted but are also inclusive and collaborative, echoing the themes of stakeholder-driven peacebuilding. World Tourism Day 2024 serves as a platform to highlight the importance of tourism in building bridges, fostering dialogue, and promoting peace worldwide. Through collaborative efforts and innovative strategies, the I-STARS project continues to pave the way for a sustainable future through tourism. I-STARS project is an innovative project with partners from Cyprus, Greece, Ireland, Italy and Spain, co-funded by the European Union. It is dedicated to enhancing the sustainability knowledge and practices of tourism SMEs, fostering their transformation towards recovery and long-term viability.
