Palermo - Italy : High training course to Public Servants


OTIE organized in collaboration with the Centre for Research and Studies Directional (CERISDI) the second annual refresher training for public servants, entitled "Tourism in the Mediterranean island: Comparison of off-season political" lessons were given by international experts from Italy, Cyprus, Malta, Corsica and Thessaloniki.

Corsica - France : second meeting of InnoNautics project


OTIE participated as a partner in the second meeting of InnoNauTICS’s project held in the Chamber of Commerce of Bastia in Corsica. At the meeting, were presented the first proposals of the four pilot projects provided.

Palermo - Italy : presentation of report on the Cruise tourism


OTIE conducted on behalf of the Sicilian Confersecenti "Research Report on Commercial tourism sectors - Cruise tourism in Sicily." This study is the first step in a research design that first applies to an island territory, which aims to identify tourism-trade channels for each type of tourism. The main results were presented during the conference organized by the Sicilian Confesercenti January 27th at Astoria Palace Palermo.




14th January

Palermo – Italy: Leonardo da Vinci program


OTIE joined the “Leonardo da Vinci” program, as for the Project “AR.TU.’ Empowerment in the ARt and ToUrism Sector” promoted by Collegio Universitario ARCES. With this adhesion, the Observatory engaged itself in spreading the project activities and hosting 4 people for a work experience.

Palermo – Italy: NECSTouR


OTIE became an associated member of NECSTouR (Network of European Competitive and Sustainable Tourism Regions). NECSTouR is a European network whose goal is the development of economical regions in carrying out researches on sustainable tourism. Currently different European regions, international organizations, universities and research establishments contributed to NECSTouR, supporting the various initiatives proposed and carried out by the network.

Chios – Greece: 3rd meeting of InnoNauTICs project


OTIE, as InnoNauTICs project partner, took part to the Third Meeting of InnoNauTICs, in Chios (Greece). During the meeting, there was presented the Methodology, proposed by the Observatory, for the five pilot projects. In fact, in InnoNauTICs, OTIE has the role to coordinate the following projects: Nautical Sports, Nautical and historical routes, Joint pilot sailing training exchange program, Archeological routes and Training.

Brussels – Belgium: JEMP STDD



OTIE, as associated partner, joined in the Joint European Master Program Sustainable Tourism Destination Development (JEMP STDD), in collaboration with the University of Prague and the consortium of European Universities.



26th May

Brussels – Belgium: INSULEUR general Assembly

OTIE was involved in the General Assembly of INSULEUR that took place in Brussels. In this occasion, InnoNauTICs partners conveyed the progress of the five pilot projects to all members of INSULEUR and presented the platform, foreseen by the project.



08th June

Messina – Italy: INSULEUR General Assembly

The feasibility study, realized by OTIE “Agriculture for the navigational”, was presented in Aeolian archipelago (Italy). The study permitted to integrate the agricultural product with the nautical tourism in the province of Messina, intercepting new sales channels.

Palermo – Italy: Master Tourism Marketing & Destination Management for the EU Islands

OTIE, as technical partner, joined in the “Tourism Marketing & Destination Management for the EU Islands” in collaboration with University of Palermo, Universidad de Les Illes Balears and University of Malta. The Observatory plays the part of organizer of the master.

Crete – Greece: Master Tourism Marketing & Destination Management for the EU Islands

OTIE was involved in the fourth meeting of InnoNauTICs project, in Heraklion (Greece). During the meeting, there were presented the progress of the five pilot projects and the portal www.nauticaleurope.com.

Aeolian Islands – Italy: Technical Sponsor partnership with Teatro del Fuoco

OTIE was a technical partner of the fourth edition of the event Teatro del Fuoco®, which was planned, realized and promoted by Società Argomenti of Palermo (Italy) and Associazione Culturale Elementi of Stromboli and took place in Aeolian Islands (Italy). During this event, artists from everywhere displayed an exciting show in which the fire was the cornerstone of balance numbers and dancing with fire.



07th September

Azores – Portugal: Summer Course

OTIE participated to the Summer Course “Innovation in Tourism and Sustainable Regional Development”. In the Workshop 3: Branding, innovation in marketing destination in a global tourism market, impact of new technologies on the tourist offer. The summer school took place in Azores Islands and the title of OTIE speech was: "Traditional and technologic innovation: the case of two accommodation structures in Sicily”.



19th-21st-26th-28th September

Palermo – Italy: High training course for Regional Managers

OTIE, in collaboration with the Centre for Executive Researches and Studies (CERISDI), organized the third edition of the high training course for Regional Managers and administrators who work in the public touristic organization. The title of the course was: “The strategic planning in the European Islands”. Meetings were held by international experts and consultants specialized in tourism, from Italy, Spain, Portugal and Malta.



21th September

Palermo – Italy: EU.RO.P.A 2012


OTIE joined in the “Trans-national Cooperation Projects on European Cultural Routes”. 23/G/ENT/CIP/11/B/N02S008 as scientific partner.
The title of the project was: “EU.RO.P.A 2012 – European Routes Promo Actions- and foresaw the realization of four specific routes: Cultural Routes Phoenicians, Prehistoric Rock Art, Iter Vitis and chocolate route”.

Cagliari – Italy: 4th General OTIE Assembly

On the occasion of the 11th Insuleur Forum “Infrastructure and transport: territorial cohesion and economic growth for the islands”, the 4th general OTIE Assembly took place in Cagliari. Assembly had been held at the Convento di San Giuseppe on Friday 21st October, from 17.30 to 19.30.



10th December

Catania – Italy: GECT institutional forum


OTIE took part to the institutional forum on 8th, 9th and 10th December 2011 in Catania, which was named: “Vecchi e nuovi attori nel mediterraneo che cambia: il ruolo dei popoli, delle regioni e dei soggetti locali, dei governi e delle istituzioni sovranazionali, in una strategia integrata di sviluppo condiviso”. The Observatory gave some data about tourism in the islands and presented InnoNauTICs project.
