Palermo – Italy : Conference “Sicily outside economic crisis thanks to tourism”



OTIE’s President has talked at the conference about tourism, held inside Sicilian Regional Assembly (Palermo), organized by Confesercenti Sicilia.
During the conference a document about competition in the tourist companies, restraints and main opportunities in the international markets, has been presented.




10-11 February

Brussels: presentation of the 1st focus at the “Tourism Working Group” of CRPM



OTIE has presented the 1st Focus on Tourism in the European Islands at the West Sweden Office in Brussels, giving a contribution in the debate about capacities and necessities of tourism in the insular destinations. The Tourism Working Group has also agreed OTIE’s proposals and initiatives for 2009.


9-11 April

Bastia – Corsica: European Parliament Tourism Intergroup



On the occasion of the meeting of European Parliament Tourism Intergroup, chaired by the European parliamentarian Mrs Margie Sudre, and held at the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Bastia and Haute-Corse, OTIE has participated with a speech about “Methodologies for a comparative value of tourism in the UE islands”.

Palermo – Italy: Presentation in Italy of the 1st focus on tourism in eu islands



OTIE has organized in Palermo – Sicily – at the Sicilian Regional Assembly, a meeting to value and discuss the results surfaced in the 1st Focus on Insular Tourism. More than 40 tourist operators, together with European representatives of UE islands, like Malta, Corsica and Spain, were present.

Brussels: INSULEUR General Assembly



OTIE has attended the INSULEUR General Assembly, on the occasion of the elections of the President and the Members of the Council. At the meeting the newly elected President, Mr. Juan Gual de Torella Guasp, has presented the activities program for the 2009-2011.

Bruxelles: INSULEUR technical committee



OTIE’s President has been invited to participate to the work of the INSULEUR technical Committee in Brussels, to define a cooperation between the organizations, to create a network involving Universities and insular Chambers of Commerce, in order to realize a databank of statistic indicators about tourism and to work out some projects on insular tourism.


Processing of the 2nd focus on insular european tourism



OTIE’s Research Department is updating data on tourist demand and offer into insular background examined in the 1sr Focus on Tourism of 2008. The second edition of the focus foresees a deep investigation of the tourist insular phenomena in the North of Europe and Northern Seas. The publication is foresees at the end of the second semester


Processing of the 1st report on nautical tourism in italy



OTIE’s Research Department, in cooperation with Assonautica Italiana, supports the processing of the 1st Report on Nautical Tourism in Italy. The aim of the survey is to define the presences of nautical tourists in the nautical accommodations inside 15 Italian regions. The Research Department is interested in fixing nautical tourism traffic inside major and minor Italian islands.
