palermo – Italy: Establishment of the Observatory On Tourism in the European Islands

On the 2nd February 2007, in Palermo (Sicily), following to Italian law it was established, with a public deed, the Observatory
on Tourism in the European Islands – OTIE. Representatives from Sicily, Corsica, Palma De Mallorca, Malta, Crete and some
members of INSULEUR network have attended the venue.

Kalamata – Greece: Institutional Meeting at the Chamber of Commerce

The representatives of the Observatory have taken part to the meeting with George Karabatos, President of the Chamber of
Commerce in Kalamata, and Mrs Clara Petrillo of IRAT CNR in Naples (Italy), to propose co-operation activities about nautical
tourism among Peloponnese area, Sicily and Malta.

Brussels – Belgium: INSULEUR General Assembly meeting

During the annual INSULEUR General Assembly meeting in Brussels the Observatory has proposed its adherence to Insuleur Network,
offering its availability to organize the Forum INSULEUR 2007 in Gozo (Malta). Inside Forum’s schedule OTIE has called its
first assembly.

Co-operations with European Universities

OTIE has subscribed co-operation agreements about stage programmes and work experiences with some European Universities: Università
degli Studi di Palermo, Université de Corse, Istituto Superior Politécnico Internacional Hotel and Tourism Management de Lisbona

Portovenere – ItalY: OTIE guest at the 1st seminar about Italian Minor Islands

ANCIM – National Association of Minor Island Municipalities has organized on the Palmaria Island in Porto Venere (Italy) the
Forum “Treasure Islands… Islands’ Treasure”. OTIE, together with the Corsica and Palma De Mallorca representatives, has coordinated
the seminar about international cooperation in European islands’ development.

Gozo – Malta: OTIE First assembly in Gozo

OTIE 1st General Assembly takes place at Grand Hotel in Gozo. OTIE charter members and INSULEUR representatives have attended
the venue, together with the Institute of Tourism Studies in Malta and the Islands and Small States Institute University
of Malta. The assembly votes the 1st OTIE’s President, Dr. Giovanni Ruggieri.

Brussels: Information Seminar for Servants inside Insular Chambers of Commerce

OTIE presents a report about the innovation inside micro-business in the European Islands. Servants from Insular Chambers
of Commerce, together with INSULA and CPRM representatives have attended the informative meeting that has happened at the
European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels.
